Between June 10 and 13, 2025, a shipment of fresh bananas from Ecuador weighing over 71 tons was destroyed in the control zone of the "Kyiv" Border Inspection Post. The reason: The fruit was deemed unfit for consumption according to Ukrainian food safety regulations.
The bananas were first processed in a biocompactor (hydraulic compression), then incinerated at high temperatures in a thermal disposal unit. The procedure ensured there was no remaining waste of material or commercial value.
The destruction took place under customs supervision, with representatives of the shipment owner, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, and a state inspector present.
