EU banana production forecast down 16% in 2025

The European Union's banana production for 2025 is forecast to reach 566,592 tonnes, according to the latest figures published by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development. This represents a decrease from the confirmed total of 676,603 tonnes in 2024. The decline in production is reflected across several producing regions, including Spain, France, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Portugal, Cyprus, and Greece.

Spain remains the leading banana producer in the EU, with a projected total of 341,490 tonnes for 2025, down from 449,202 tonnes in 2024. The average price at the point of delivery is expected to rise to €1.25 per kg, compared to €0.89 per kg in the previous year. Other regions such as Guadeloupe and Martinique also show lower projected volumes for 2025, though prices for bananas in these areas remain comparatively lower, particularly in Guadeloupe, where the average delivery price is €0.72 per kg.

France, incorporating overseas territories, is forecast to produce 191,895 tonnes in 2025, down from 196,187 tonnes in 2024.
