In mid-June, the Brazilian market saw fluctuating prices for tahiti limes and ponkan tangerines, driven by contrasting supply and demand dynamics. Tahiti lime prices rose in response to reduced supply and increased international demand. From June 9-12, tahiti lime prices averaged approximately $7.82 per 27.2-kg box, reflecting a 21.56% increase from the previous period. The limited availability of fruit stemmed from adverse weather conditions since May, which slowed harvesting processes. Additionally, European summer demand contributed to elevated market activity for these Brazilian exports.
The current tahiti lime season, particularly impacted by 2024's weather patterns, experienced fluctuations in supply. The extension of industrial lime crushing into early May further restricted the June supply, suggesting a continuation of this trend into July.
In contrast, ponkan tangerine prices had decreased, with a mid-June average of around $11.27 per 27.2-kg box, marking a decline of 10.06% over the same period. The availability of other fruits, including bananas, affects ponkan prices. Furthermore, recent rainfall in southern Minas Gerais, a key ponkan-producing region, caused tangerines to fall prematurely, diminishing their quality and impacting prices negatively.
This complex interplay of weather conditions, harvesting timelines, and international demand underscores the volatile nature of the market for these citrus varieties.
