Ukrainian vegetable grower rebuilds after $15M loss

Green Guild Group, a vegetable grower in the Kyiv region of Ukraine, specializes in cultivating the "borscht set" of potatoes, carrots, beets, and onions. This enterprise faced severe disruptions when located near Antonov airport, a major conflict zone during the February 2022 full-scale invasion. As reported by Agronews, the region witnessed intense battles.

Key infrastructure, including the office, warehouse, irrigation, and storage facilities, suffered extensive damage. Fields became laden with mines, and the company estimated financial losses at $15 million. With assistance from peers and international bodies, recovery efforts have advanced. Fields have been de-mined, production facilities are operational, and new storage capabilities conform to Dutch specifications. Vegetables now reside in 1.5-ton wooden containers, where temperatures consistently range from 2.5-3 degrees, ensuring prolonged storage of potatoes up to nine months.

Commercial Director Kostiantyn Zavhorodniuk highlights the recovery phases. Presently, the processing plant runs two production lines. One line manages fresh produce distribution to supermarkets, while the other prepares vacuum-packed vegetables for military soup provisions. Irrigation systems have also been reestablished.
