© Hugo Huijbers | FreshPlaza.com

Bolzano's wholesale market has always been considered the hub of South Tyrol's fruit and vegetable sector. The businesses that are still there do not know what the future holds. Their "right to stay" is being extended from year to year. The reason: the wholesale market is needed for the expansion of the railway station area. However, sole administrator Heini Grandi (right) confirms that it is still unclear when work will begin.

Food trade for over 60 years
The local Bolzano wholesale market was founded in its current form in 1963. In 1987, the wholesale market area was significantly expanded. In addition to fruit and vegetables, fish, meat, flowers, and other foodstuffs are also handled there.
