Ukraine expands farm storage loans

Dutch solutions for potato and vegetable storage are well-known in Ukraine, and local farmers now have improved access to financing for constructing new facilities, thanks to the recently adopted "Affordable Loans" program.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a resolution expanding opportunities for farmers to build vegetable and potato storage facilities. This decision amends Clause 9 of the Procedure for Providing Financial State Support to Business Entities. The resolution, prepared by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, was adopted at a regular government meeting.

Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitaliy Koval, emphasized the importance of the measure: "Important news for Ukrainian farmers engaged in vegetable growing. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a draft resolution initiated by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, which opens up new opportunities within the framework of the 'Affordable Loans 5-7-9%' program. From now on, agricultural producers investing in the construction of vegetable and potato storage facilities will be eligible for state support in the form of interest rate compensation, up to UAH 150 million (US$ 3.77 million). This also applies to enterprises in the livestock and processing sectors."

Why is this important?
Due to the war and the destruction of infrastructure, Ukraine now faces a 60% storage deficit. The country urgently needs additional storage capacity—around 340,000 tons. Building new storage facilities is crucial for strengthening food security and minimizing seasonal price volatility for vegetables and fruits.
