In Piraeus, authorities have confiscated 131 kilograms of cocaine concealed within banana shipments originating from Ecuador. The estimated street value of the narcotics stands at €5.9 million.
Customs officers identified suspicious content during an X-ray scan of the refrigeration units of the containers. This discovery initiated an operation by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) in conjunction with police forces.
In the initial case, police sniffer dogs, Max and Kyberr, detected illicit substances. A subsequent physical inspection revealed 67 packages of cocaine, weighing 78 kilograms, with an estimated street value of €3.51 million.
In a separate incident, officials uncovered 47 packages of cocaine, weighing 53 kilograms, valued at approximately €2.39 million.
Investigations are currently underway as officers explore potential connections between this drug seizure and other related cases. The efforts aim to dismantle an international drug trafficking network.
