Vietnam boosts EU fruit exports with new trade deals and expanded market presence

Vietnam has increased its participation at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, hosting ten booths through the Vietnam Fruits and Vegetables Association (Vinafruit). The event, running for three days, features key Vietnamese produce such as mangos, longans, and dragon fruits. This marks Vietnam's fifth attendance.

Vinafruit General Secretary Dang Phuc Nguyen stated to Vietnam News Agency that the event is crucial for Vietnamese enterprises to explore new trading partnerships and enhance ties with European buyers. The EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement aids in expanding exports to the European market while offering exposure to advanced preservation and packaging technologies.

Vietnamese agricultural counselor in the EU, Tran Van Cong, highlighted Europe's open market for plant-based products, noting that Europe's post-inspection policies allow market access without stringent requirements like planting area registration. However, adherence to EU production standards is mandatory.

Huynh Thanh Truc of Golden Bee import-export company observed that Vietnamese fruits such as durians and longans have gained market share in Europe. Nonetheless, high logistics costs pose challenges to price competitiveness.

In 2022, Vietnam exported fruits and vegetables worth 7.15 billion USD, with 242.5 million USD directed to the EU. At the fair, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Vina T&T Co., Ltd (Vietnam) and Golden Gate Bce B.V (Netherlands) for distributing Vietnamese fruits in the EU.

Fruit Logistica, with over 2,600 exhibitors from 90 countries, is a key event for the global fruit and vegetable industry. The exhibition covers areas such as tropical fruits and post-harvest technology, focusing on fostering meaningful partnerships.
