Uniterra Sicilia Group - Arancia Loretta: "We always stand up to the challenges"

"Our citrus fruits have not disappointed any of our customers"

A well-established company is not hindered by general difficulties in terms of its production and commercial activities. The Uniterra Sicilia Group—Arancia Loretta is a prime example of this phenomenon. This resilient company maintains nearly 800 hectares of production capacity, including that of its trusted suppliers, making it a notable contributor to the industry.

"The 2024/25 season presented several challenges, starting with the drought," says Carmelo Frisenna, sales manager of the group from Paternò, province of Catania, in Sicily. "However, what is important is that so far we have managed to meet the expectations of our business partners, both in Italy and abroad. We have not disappointed any of our customers, especially those from Germany, Austria, France, and the Netherlands, and with the return of normal weather conditions, the situation is already improving."

Clementines, mandarins, and blonde and red oranges "In the meantime, our Tacle clementine season continues," explains Frisenna. "It started at the beginning of December and will continue until the beginning of March. The situation for the blonde orange, which has been with us since the beginning of the season, is no different .Here, the campaign will end, among the different blonde varieties (from Newhall to Lane Late and Powell), at the end of June. Additionally, the production of pigmented oranges, including the traditional tarocco varieties from the Etna area, is currently underway. This campaign will be followed by the late varieties of Meli, Sant'Alfio, and other varieties. The late tangerine campaign is also proceeding successfully."

"Although it has not yet reached its conclusion and it is therefore too early to delineate financial estimates, this season deserves a thorough explanation," says the manager. "It is important to emphasize how a company with our structure can thrive. We have a well-organized system and ample land resources that ensure consistent access to quality materials. While production has faced some challenges, our commitment to meeting the expectations of our Italian and foreign retail customers remains constant, precisely because of our extensive product range. Even when requests for larger gauges are made, we are able to respond with the required quality and efficiency. This is particularly noteworthy in view of the general challenge of finding skilled labor, a challenge that has persisted despite the continuity of our workforce."

The company's policy is based on welfare and care for its employees, who for years have always been the same

'Currently, the Tacle clementine is being sold for between €0.80 and €1.00 per kilogram at the point of production, the blonde orange for €0.70 to €0.85 per kilogram, and the red one for €0.50 to €0.70 per kilogram, with some batches reaching up to €1.00 per kilogram. It should be noted that these are average prices and may vary depending on factors such as variety, quality, and availability. Citrus fruits are quite expensive at the point of production, and it is important to consider the impact of weather conditions on costs, including the need for interventions such as emergency irrigation, which have increased costs for growers.

The Uniterra Sicilia Group, through its Arancia Loretta company, holds BIO, GlobalGAP, GRASP, and IFS certifications. It also adheres to the Consortium for the Protection of the Blood Orange of Sicily PGI."
