The second edition of the Naranjasyfrutas.com Awards will take place on June 19

All set for the award ceremony for best citrus trader

On June 19, at the Caixa Popular's main office, located in the Paterna Technology Park (in the Spanish Region of Valencia), the platform Naranjasyfrutas.com will present the award given to the best citrus trader of the 2023/24 campaign. Over 1,600 producers have taken part in the survey launched a few weeks ago to select the winner, thus aiming to "properly recognize the good practices of traders in the purchase of crops from producers," says Juan José Bas, manager of the platform.

Producers have evaluated and rated four essential practices in the buying and selling of crops, which has resulted in the following average scores:

  • The agreed payment dates were the best-rated practice, with a score of 8.90 (8.41 in the 22/23 campaign)
  • The sizes of the harvested crops and the harvesting method received a score of 8.42 (7.94 in the 22/23 campaign)
  • The agreed start and end dates of harvesting received a score of 7.49 (7.84 in the 22/23 campaign)
  • The price agreed with the producers received a score of 7.93 (7.69 in the 22/23 campaign)

The survey results for this 2023/2024 citrus campaign give traders an average score of 8.18 out of 10, which is a high grade.

"It should be taken into account that since this survey is intended for producers to vote for the best citrus trader, so when a producer sells their crops to several traders, they will usually only fill out a survey voting for the trader they are most satisfied with, and for this reason, traders in these surveys tend to achieve high average scores."

Roundtable discussion
To get an insight into the sector and a first-hand perspective, there will also be a roundtable discussion addressing the current state and prospects for Spanish citrus, moderated by Raquel Fuertes Redón, manager and journalist of the weekly horticultural journal Valencia Fruits.

The roundtable, entitled "Together to advance in the good practices of traders and producers" will feature Vicente Antoni Escrivá, director of operations and projects at Cañamás Hermanos S.A.; Víctor Fuster Embuena, purchasing director at Germans Fuster S.L. and Best Citrus Trader 2023; José Enrique Sanz Roselló, manager of the PDO Cítricos Valencianos, and Rafael Matoses Belsa, citrus grower.

Naranjasyfrutas.com is a platform where producers can advertise their crops for free and where traders can quickly and easily locate the products they need. Since its inception in 2012, the platform has remained in permanent contact with both producers and traders, aiming to improve and make all of its services more useful, always paying attention to any suggestions and identified needs.
