In 2023, vegetable cultivation in Ukraine nearly matched the levels seen in 2021. The country swiftly restored production volumes to meet the domestic market demand, as central and northern regions reacted by expanding areas dedicated to vegetable cultivation.
This was highlighted on March 12 during a seed delivery event for frontline and de-occupied communities as part of the USAID initiative, according to Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization, Denis Bashlik. He mentioned that Ukraine produced 29 million tons of vegetables last year, with Zhytomyr and Dnipropetrovsk regions leading the production.
Bashlik added that households play a significant role in supplying a third of the domestic market with vegetables.
It's worth noting that in 2024, agrarians plan to increase the construction of facilities for storing vegetables and potatoes by 40,000 tons, further bolstering the agricultural infrastructure in the country.
