A few figures from the leading Italian producer

"Our best pomegranate season has ended"

The Lome Super Fruit pomegranate campaign ended just a few days ago. The entire 2023 harvest was sold: as reported by the sales manager of Masseria Fruttirossi Dario De Lisi, a total of approximately 5 thousand ton against the slightly less than 3.5 thousand tons of last year.

"80% of the production was destined to the fresh produce market, while the remaining part was processed into juice. For us, this was the most important season so far, also thanks to a gradual increase in orchards, and therefore in volumes. This year too, we finished earlier than planned, as demand was high all over Europe already in September. Had we had more produce available, we could have continued with sales even in March. Half of the fruits processed were sent abroad, and mainly to Germany which absorbed 65% of total exports. 20% was then sent to France and Switzerland, and the remaining part went to the Arab Emirates. We could have shipped even more volumes to latter, had traffic on the Red Sea not been drastically reduced due to reasons we all know."

The first supplies by Masseria Fruttirossi date back to 2018, when orchards only covered 100 hectares. Planting in different periods in order to gradually increase yields helped the company become a reliable supplier capable of guaranteeing constant quantities for 7 months a year. Now there are 350 hectares, not all of which in production yet. We are expecting to harvest around 6 thousand tons during the next season.

"This record season led to a 60% increase in turnover despite the weather and the initial estimates that talked about low yields. We supplied 12 big retail chains in Italy alone, two more than during the last campaign. Then we also delivered produce to France and the Netherlands. The sales of arils in 100 and 150 gram packets also exceeded expectations. They are appreciated especially abroad due to the long shelf-life (up to 20 days)."

For 2024, Masseria Fruttirossi has been chosen by a well-known supermarket for the supply of pomegranates which will be commercialized under the distributor brand (private label). "It is a dedicated Premium line. We are proud to have been chosen."
