The export of Peruvian pomegranates exceeds expectations

During the first four weeks of the year, Peruvian fresh pomegranate exports have been better than expected. In this period, exports have reached 1,798 tons, which is more than four times the figure reached in 2023, when only 419 tons were exported. Just last week, shipments totaled 955 tons, over eight times what was exported in the same week last year.

So far in 2024, Peruvian pomegranates have reached seven destinations, with the United Kingdom and Canada being added during this period; however, no shipments have yet been sent to Japan, which had already made purchases at the beginning of last year. In these first four weeks of the year, the leading destinations have been the Netherlands, with 88% of the share (1,589 tons); that is, almost five times more than in 2023; Germany, with 5% (86 tons) and more than four times the volume reported last year; and the United States, with 3% (47 tons), which has recorded a 13% drop compared to last year.

The number of Peruvian exporting companies at the start of this year has also been surprising, as until last week, a total of 26 agro-exporters had been registered (14 more than in 2023). Some of the most important are Agroinca Productos Peruanos de Exportación S.A., with 32% of the share (shipping only to the Netherlands); Inka Select Fruit S.A.C., with 10% (93% of the shipments going to the Netherlands and 7% to Colombia); and Supply Company E.I.R.L., with 8% (which is making 69% of its shipments to the Netherlands and 31% to Germany).
