"We have been offering pomegranates from Turkey since October and will continue to do so until about mid/late March. They are currently quite expensive. Each week, we receive five to six trucks, each carrying 17 to 18 tons. We also have Santa Maria pears, Devici pears and quinces available until about March," says Managing Director Ersan Yildizak of disFruta Fruit Import.
"The prices for the pomegranates are almost too high, which is mainly due to the many sortings. Spain stopped supplying their goods early on. The Turkish goods are also gradually coming to an end. Added to this is the fact that the cold weather and the farmers' protests have also affected business."
"Since relocating our operations to Duisburg, our business has improved significantly. We have been able to increase our turnover by about 30 percent. Although the transport costs have increased significantly due to toll charges, we have a fixed agreement with Turkey, as we sourced between 500 and 600 trucks in 2023 and therefore our prices remain stable."
