Belarus sees price surge on fresh produce

In December 2023, Belarus witnessed a significant spike in food prices, as reported by the National Statistical Committee. Fresh cucumbers led the pack with a staggering 28.90% increase compared to the previous month. Other notable hikes included white cabbage (+22.58%), grapes (+18.32%), sweet peppers (+17.41%), tomatoes (+17.30%), and onions (+15.65%).

Additional price surges were observed in:

  • Carrots (+11.65%)
  • Potatoes (+11.20%)
  • Beets (+11.14%)
  • Apples (+8.14%)
  • Citrus fruits (+6.91%)
  • Pears (+5.95%)

Overall, vegetables saw an 18.19% increase, while fruits experienced a 6.99% rise in prices.

Yearly (December 2023 compared to December 2022), the cost of food in Belarus escalated by 6.8%.

The most significant year-over-year increases were noted in:

  • Grapes (+59.77%)
  • Fresh white cabbage (+53.02%)
  • Fresh tomatoes (+49.64%)
  • Garlic (+47.99%)
  • Pears (+34.99%)
  • Apples (+28.09%).
