The latest data from Kantar Worldpanel reveals that Mercadona has lost 0.4% of its market share in Spain during the last month (between November 5 and December 3), to 26.7%, thus chaining two consecutive months of decline, after six consecutive increases.
No operator in the national top 7 was able to increase its market share in the last month. All of them suffered declines, except for Carrefour, Lidl, and Eroski, which have managed to retain their percentages. Despite having the biggest market share, Mercadona experienced the greatest decline in the sample with a decline of four tenths compared to November. Carrefour retains its 9.9% share and ranked second. Lidl and Eroski managed to retain their 6.4% and 4.3% market shares, respectively.
Meanwhile, Grupo DIA, Consum, and Alcampo lost 0.1% each, with shares of 3.8%, 3.4%, and 3.1%, respectively.
The top seven distributors account for 57.6% of the sales of organized food distribution in Spain, i.e. 0.7% less than in the previous month.
