Vitafresh Produce is currently importing limes from Brazil, Mexico and Colombia and are looking to increase the volumes from Colombia where the climate is stable all year round. Managing Director Daniel Badger recently visited their partner out there.
“We have a good partner in Bucaramanga and intend to increase the volumes from the grower. The weather is very stable there year-round giving very reliable growing conditions resulting in consistent quality. The limes are a lovely dark green colour which is what the UK consumer looks for. The drying and waxing processes are also very advanced.”
Daniels hopes to increase the volumes 100 containers this year.
“Pricing from Colombia can be dependent on the US market as a lot of limes are shipped there, but in general they are in line with the other producing countries. Initially we will be selling them under the grower’s brand, but will change to our own brand in the new year.”
