Russia: Inspectors stops ToBRFV-infected tomatoes coming from China

The Primorye Interregional Office of Rosselkhoznadzor successfully stopped the import of a 6.7-ton batch of tomatoes from China. This action was taken because a quarantine object, the Tomato brown rugose fruit virus, was found in the products.

In early November, during the state control of imported tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants at the Pogranichny phytosanitary control post, samples were selected for testing by an institution under Rosselkhoznadzor - the Primorsky branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIKR."

As per the test report dated November 8, 2023, the Tomato brown rugose fruit virus was identified in one of the tomato samples. On November 9, Rosselkhoznadzor decided to prohibit the release of the batch into circulation. The affected tomatoes will be destroyed at the discretion of the product owner.
