"This storm could result in another reduction of the harvest"

Strong windstorm causes significant damage to citrus, kaki and avocado crops in the Region of Valencia

The windstorm of recent days, which is forecast to continue for a few days more, is already causing significant damage to many crops in the Region of Valencia due to the strong gusts it has brought, according to La Unió Llauradora.

The most damaged crops are those that are currently in the middle of the harvesting season, like citrus fruits, kakis or avocados.

They are mostly affected by fruit fall or bruises, which reduces their commercial value, or by branches and sprouts breaking.

As for kakis, now in the middle of the harvesting season, the damages will be considerable, given that any slight blow causes them to be no longer suitable for marketing.

Carles Peris, general secretary of La Unió Llauradora, said that "the timing of this windstorm has been really bad and will reduce the production estimates in crops that had already been hit by previous weather issues, so there may be marketing problems at certain times if the production losses end up being too great."
