Euro Gijbels Academy's first training sessions in Belgium are over. After a successful session for the French-speaking customers in June, the same training day for their Dutch-speaking partners followed in early September. "Those were very well-received, so another series is to follow on October 12 and 19," says Euro Gijbels' Danny Van den Bergh.

The first sessions were focused on soft fruit. "We got only positive feedback. The only point that could be raised was that it was sweltering on the Dutch-speaking customers' day - over 30°C inside the greenhouse. Still, it was a great way to brush up on retail staff knowledge. We had a good turnout, too. You, of course, want to gradually increase that in the next sessions, but we're satisfied with the days already held. As were the participants, because people are rapidly registering for the next sessions."

Lack of knowledge
The Belgian company developed the courses. "Our clients wanted more training for their people. We, thus, decided to launch these training sessions to support them. We believe that involving people in the products' cultivation and storage makes them more interested in said products. We dived deeper into the products with area leaders: how they're grown, picked, and stored. But also tips and tricks to give consumers," Danny explains.
New product groups
And so it happened, with the next series about to begin, too. On October 12 and 19, the focus will be on top fruit. "We'll proceed from the same principle as soft fruit but then highlighting top fruit. First with the French-speaking customers, then a week later, we'll receive the Dutch-speaking ones again."

The company will look at a new product group during each session because Danny is sure there will be subsequent sessions. "After the success of, and great interest, in these series, early next year, in consultation with our clients, we'll see where there's a need for additional knowledge," he concludes.
