Ecuador's banana exports to the European Union are growing

From January to August 2023, Ecuador exported 247.96 million boxes of bananas, i.e. 7.17% more than in the same period of 2022, according to data from the Banana Marketing and Export Association (Acorbanec).

Exports to the EU amounted to 247.96 million boxes and increased by 22.41% driven by the increase in purchases from the country's main markets: the Netherlands with +14.25% and 18,034,821 million boxes, Germany with +32.17% and 10,603,598 million boxes, Italy with 12.29% and 8,907,225 million boxes, and Belgium with +2.86% and 7,574,903 million boxes.

There were also increases in Ecuadorian exports to Russia (+5.60%), the United States (+4.99%), the United Kingdom (+19.72%), Africa (+21.06%), East Asia (+15.26%); Central Asia (+4.07%), Oceania (+18.14%), and the Southern Cone (+1.97%). However, exports to the Middle East fell by 8.38%, to Eastern Europe by 46.94% (mainly due to the drastic reduction in exports to Ukraine due to the conflict with Russia), exports to EFTA fell by 13.25%, and exports to Canada decreased by 81.90%.
