“We will start to export our bananas to Europe at the end of June"

Egypt is famous for its exports of grapes and oranges, but one company is looking to add to its portfolio and start exporting Egyptian bananas.

"We will start to export our bananas to Europe at the end of June," explains Mina Maged, Sales Manager at Mimac. "We have been exporting some to Eastern Europe for almost a year, we export around eight containers per month. They are different to the Cavendish bananas that Europeans are used to and are still a strange concept for Europeans. They are the Cavendish Williams variety, which is sweeter than the South American bananas."

"We have a logistical advantage over the South American countries as we are closer to the European market. We already grow large volumes of bananas and we can export them at a very competitive price. We will enter the market with small volumes at first.
