In September, fruits represent the bulk of Spanish fruit and vegetable exports. Last year, Spain exported 302,459 tons of fruits (i.e. 58% of all fruit and vegetable exports) and 222,190 tons of vegetables. But what were the most exported fruits in September last year?
Fruit exports were led by table grapes with 40,541 tons, consolidating the importance that this crop has acquired in Spain, especially in the region of Murcia with the seedless grape. The decrease in stone fruit production last year due to frost also helped the grapes be the most exported fruit in September 2022.
The second most exported fruit was nectarine, with 30,791 tons. It was followed by watermelon, with 29,200 tons, melon, with 28,154 tons, and peach, with 26,085 tons.
According to data from the Department of Customs and Excise processed by FEPEX, the most exported fruit in September 2021 and 2020 was the watermelon; in previous years, peaches and nectarines.
