"While the first part of the season was characterized by prices not always up to par, quotations have been on the up for the past 15 days," reports Mirco Zoffoli, sales manager for "Domenico Laghi" from Forlì.

"We have harvested 80% of peaches and nectarines and operations will end by mid-September. Fruits are particularly nice and with good grades. Warehouses are empty and there is no stock like in past years: the produce is processed and shipped as soon as it reaches the facility."

The market is also requesting produce from abroad. "In July and also in early August, demand in Switzerland and Germany was influenced by the significant Spanish presence. That is not the case anymore and everyone is remembering of us Italians. Due to the adverse weather, production in Romagna was low, we have calculated a drop between 30 and 40%. That is why we have strengthened relations with many producers in Puglia, whose produce is excellent and who are very professional."
"The popularity of Saturn peaches and nectarines is increasing. We process them entirely by hand."

We could also talk about a 'rebirth of white nectarines'. "They were difficult to place up to a few years ago because too many had been planted and their shelf-life was short. Now quantities are right for what the market is requesting and the new varieties are both good to eat and with an excellent shelf-life. White nectarines have obtained 20 eurocents more per kg on average than yellow ones of the same grade."
