In 2022, French fruit wholesaler Arco Fruits made the decision to plant 1 ha of Citrus australasica in the Spanish region of Murcia. According to Jean Contreras, general manager of Arco Fruits, this was a way to "diversify and, most importantly, to offer an exceptional product originating from Europe." Finger limes are currently imported mainly from Morocco and Australia but could soon be grown on European soil.

This year, 2,500 kilos will be available until October.
Although Arco Fruits is looking to expand its product range, the wholesaler also wants to meet the ever-growing demand for this small citrus variety with sour notes, which have become very popular among restaurant owners and on e-commerce sites. "Finger limes are an item that is currently all the rage. It can especially be found on the menus of various Toques Blanches restaurants and Michelin-starred restaurants," continued the CEO, who intends to position his finger limes now among vegetable retailers. "We have been a citrus specialist since 1988, but with products like finger limes, we want to tap into new channels.

For this first year on the market, Arco Fruits is launching an introductory bulk offer, in 1, 2, or 6 kg packs and 100-gram trays.
The Arco Fruits team will be attending the next edition of Fruit Attraction in Madrid, in the St. Charles Export Pavilion.
