Fruit importer/exporter looks back on the first half of 2023

Salix Fruits ends the first half of the year with important achievements.

“2023 demonstrates our constant dedication to improvement and growth as we continue to provide quality services and products to our customers,” said Juan González Pita, co-founder and COO of the company. Salix has consolidated sales through its import platform in Philadelphia and thus, strengthened its presence in North America.

“Our brand Mundos has experienced outstanding growth, demonstrating our ability to innovate and meet customers' needs,” added González Pita.

In addition, the company’s India office delivered strong results in the first half of the year, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the Indian market. It has taken a significant step in its global expansion by opening a new office in Egypt which helps strengthen its presence in North Africa.

Salix Fruits is projected to import more than 1,000,000 boxes of citrus from various origins this year, representing a significant 30 percent growth compared to the previous year. The imports are not limited to the summer season, as it also sources citrus from Mexico, Morocco, Spain and Turkey during the winter. These numbers highlight the substantial volume of citrus fruits it handles annually, underscoring its commitment to meeting the demand for citrus in the American market.

In addition, the company’s participation in Fruit Logistica was successfully completed and proved to be a great opportunity to meet customers, suppliers and friends.

Upcoming season
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Peru has severe problems regarding the hot winter. High temperatures during winter are part of the Niño condition that started last May. This brings nights that are not so cool so mandarins have no nice colors and it is delaying the harvest.

Also, weather problems have affected South Africa's Western Cape's citrus area. Heavy rains during May and June stopped the harvest for more than three weeks, decreasing the loads of early Navels and Clementines.

On the other side, Uruguay and Argentina are keeping the budget volumes. Chile is very aggressive with the volumes of Clementines and Navels and is trying to fill the place that Peru and South Africa are leaving in the U.S. citrus market.
