In the years 2019-2022, Georgia earned $366.4 million from the export of hazelnuts, surpassing a volume of 74,400 tons, according to data from the National statistics office of Georgia. In the last year alone, the country earned over $100 million from the export of nuts, almonds, chestnuts, and pistachios. Among these, 22,029 tons of nuts, 612 tons of almonds, and 736.3 tons of chestnuts and pistachios were exported.
According to the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council's report, Georgia ranked sixth among the world's hazelnut producers in 2022-2023.
During this period, the country produced 14,800 tons of processed hazelnuts, representing a 3% share of global production. Among neighboring countries, Azerbaijan ranked fourth with 24,000 tons (4%), while Turkey remained the global leader with 415,300 tons of hazelnuts, accounting for 71% of the world's production.
Regarding imports, Georgia imported nuts valued at $2.8 million and pistachios and chestnuts worth $2.4 million in the previous year.
