Movement of asparagus from Peru imports through South Florida expected to remain about the same

The current and extreme weather conditions hovering over North America could have an impact with crop production yields, and, in the meantime, consumers can expect to see smaller selections at the grocery store. The U.S. and Mexico are dealing with triple-digit temperatures in the growing regions, while Canada is experiencing record-breaking wildfires that bring heavy and thick smoke to several parts of the United States.

The movement of asparagus from Peru imports through South Florida ports of entry is expected to remain about the same. Trading moderate. Prices higher. 11-pound cartons of bunched green extra-large supplies insufficient to quote, large mostly 33.75-36.00 and standard mostly 31.75-32.75. Most sales are prorated. Supplies jumbo and extra-large are very light, while others remain light. Supplies are in too few hands and are expected to be short for the next 2-4 days. Some crop damages were reported due to weather-related events earlier in the winter and spring months. Prices remain about steady.

Quality and condition are variable but generally good. The movement of asparagus crossings from Mexico through Arizona, California, and Texas is expected to increase. Trading is fairly active. Prices higher. 11-pound cartons/crates bunched green jumbo mostly 34.75-37.75, large mostly 35.75-36.75 and standard 34.75-35.75. Extra services included. Movement of avocado crossings from Mexico through Texas is expected to increase slightly. Trading is fairly slow. Prices lower.
