Week 27 Wholesale Fruit Market Report

Price of imported citrus down, performance of durians from Thailand and Vietnam similar

Most of the newly imported fruits this week are citrus and American cherries. According to information, the current prices of several mainstream fruits are lower than in the same period in previous years. The reasons include the impact of the production extension of similar domestic products and the fact that the taste is not yet in place at the initial stage of entering the market.

In terms of South African oranges that were in the early stage of the market, according to information, the price of sweet oranges has dropped slightly recently, and sales have been slow. Some merchants believe the reason is that this product is in the early stage, and the quality and taste of some varieties are not satisfactory, and they are not durable for storage. Moreover, domestic oranges that are still active on the market, are fresh and have a price advantage. These two factors slowed down sales. It is currently a short-term situation in the initial stage of entering the market, and the follow-up remains to be seen. In addition, South African blood oranges have been on the market for a little longer than sweet oranges. Merchants said that the quality of blood oranges has stabilized, and the price and sales are better than sweet oranges.

American oranges are at the end of their production season. Unlike the relatively sluggish market performance in the previous period, the merchants said that the quality of the oranges arriving at the end of the production season is better and the volume is small, so the market has risen. Taking the source with a price of ¥470/piece as an example, the price has increased by more than 10% compared with the previous period and increased by 25%-30% compared with the same period last year. Rising prices have had an impact on sales.

More brands and varieties of South African mandarins have arrived, including Nova and RHM. It is understood that the price of the South African mandarins arriving at present is lower than that of the same period last year, but it is closer to the early price of the previous year. According to the merchant, the price is lower than last year because the quality and taste of the current arrivals are not as stable as in the same period last year, and the production season of domestic mandarin oranges is extended this year, which has an impact on imported mandarins.

"Palm-sized Monthong" durians

The performance of imported cherries from the United States is similar to that of the previous two weeks, and the price is lower than the same period last year. It is reported that in the second half of this week, due to the small number of arrivals, the sales are smoother than before, and the price is basically the same. In terms of varieties, merchants said that Black Pearl is still the most popular because of their superior taste and firmness. Domestic cherries on sale mainly come from Shaanxi. Previously it was Kordia, but now it is Regina. According to the merchant, the Kordia variety is relatively popular because of its sweeter taste. Now that American cherries are on the market and the price is cheap this year, so it has an impact on domestic cherries.

In terms of durians, the current price of A6-sized Thai Monthong and Vietnamese Monthong is similar, about ¥600-¥630/piece. Some merchants said that in the same period last year, the selling price of Thai durians could reach more than ¥700, but this year, due to the influence of Vietnamese durians, the price is lower. At present, Thai durians come from the south, and merchants say that the quality this year is better than in the same period last year. Another merchant mentioned that although the taste of Vietnamese durians is not as good as those from Thailand, the quality of the current arrivals is good. In addition, more palm-sized Monthong durians have arrived this year than last year. It is understood that due to the small size and low price, many supermarkets and fruit shops will purchase them for in-store promotional activities.

Dali Winter Jujube

As for other imported fruits, a small amount of Australian oranges has arrived. The arrival of Vietnamese dragon fruit has increased recently, and the sales have slowed down accordingly.
