Competition in the horticultural industry in Ukraine is intensifying

Experts on the market in Ukrainian believe that the horticultural industry will gradually transfer from one crop to another type of agriculture.

Numerous farmers are currently uprooting orchards to plant vegetables, which are in high demand in Ukraine, according to Volodymyr Sherstyuk, co-founder of the agribusiness “Gardens of Ukraine” in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Although he considers the profitability of horticultural products at a 20% level to be acceptable for now, he believes it is not stable.

The oversupply of apples is a particular challenge, and Sherstyuk predicts that pears may face a similar situation soon. However, he views this as a natural process of competition, where weaker producers will eventually exit the market, leaving only the strongest players. With increasing competition and potential for export, the horticultural sector is increasingly integrated into the global market.
