Field scales for grapes - "we manufacture 5 sets a day as we wait for sales to peak"

The need to cut ripe grape bunches as soon as possible for sudden weather, phytosanitary or commercial reasons often leads agricultural entrepreneurs to spare no expense. However, such operations can be difficult if companies do not have a suitable number of scales available to weighing and packaging operators.

Giuseppe Rescina, a designer of field scales, explains that planning is desirable in a context characterized by uncertainty and climate change.

"So far we have already sold dozens of Karmen scales, which are well-known for being the lightest, more reliable and easiest to handle. Sales have not reached their peak yet, as people always wait for the start of the season to order them, but we always tell our clients to order them as soon as possible even if the harvesting campaign lasts various months. Clients often tend to order mainly when they realize they need to make a few replacements as they take out the equipment from the previous year. During the past month, we have been assembling 5 scales a day on average so as to guarantee the quantities requested and swift deliveries when demand will suddenly increase."

Karmen scales are made entirely of aluminum and only weigh 3 kg. They are lightweight and practical and can be powered by both rechargeable battery and 4 AA batteries. The adjustable table means the grapes can be placed in all kinds of containers.

"In Puglia, over 50% of companies are still using old scales that can be as heavy as 5 kg. However, there now seems to be more interest for innovative equipment. Usually, those who look at replacing old scales purchase a lot of pieces so as to equip the entire team. This decision is also helped by the low cost of our equipment."

To stimulate sales, Rescina Service trades up old scales, even those that no longer function.
