Egypt: Import permits for seed potatoes open for limited time

Last week, the Central Authority of Plant Quarantine in Egypt announced that the door for import permits for seed potatoes will be open only from 15th of April to 15th of May. According to agroberichtenbuitenland.nl, last month, The Central Administration of Plant Quarantine of Egypt informed their Dutch and French counterparts that field inspection will be postponed for this year.

In 2022, the Netherlands managed to export 48,919 tons of seed potatoes to Egypt, ranking as the second largest exporter after Scotland.

It is important for Dutch companies to take note of this announcement, as not applying for an import permit during this period means that they will not be able to export to Egypt during this year. All Dutch companies are encouraged to coordinate with their Egyptian importers to submit the required documents during this time frame.
