The greater supply of onion arrivals on wholesale markets in the city of Nashik, India has seen a drop op 63% in prices over the past two months. The demand from consumers is also lower.
The increased supply comes from all onion growing states across India. This includes Rajasthan, Gujurat and Madhya Pradesh. The kharif onions, with a one month shelf life are selling first, while summer onions with a six month shelf life are being stored in the hope of realising better prices later.
Onion prices are selling at a low of Rs 400 ($4.84) and a high of Rs 1 226 ($15.31) per quintal.
