Kazakhstan government to sell stockpiled onions locally after export ban

Kazakhstan's government said it will sell onions from its stockpiles on the domestic market, a week after a surge in demand and prices prompted the country to ban exports. Sales of onions and other vegetables such as carrots and potatoes will start this month and run through April, the government said on its website Thursday.

Kazakhstan halted onion exports last week after local prices spiked amid higher demand from neighboring Uzbekistan and floods in exporter Pakistan.
