Jose Alcaide, from Las Moreras Fruits & Veggies, TM Grupo Inmobiliario's agricultural division:

“We have become the only lemon marketing brand to be certified by the PGI Cítricos Valencianos”

The Protected Geographical Indication Cítricos Valencianos has certified that the lemons grown by Las Moreras Fruit & Veggies, the agricultural division of TM Grupo Inmobiliario, meet all the requirements, both of guarantee of origin and quality, to be part of the PGI. “We have become the only lemon marketing brand to be certified by the PGI Cítricos Valencianos,” stated Jose Alcaide Cifuentes, director of Las Moreras Fruits & Veggies.

Las Moreras Fruit & Veggies was established in 2009 in Los Montesinos, Alicante. Las Moreras farm currently has 140 hectares dedicated to citrus, mainly lemons, which occupy 80 hectares, oranges, blood oranges, mandarins, and limes, as well as almonds. 35% of its surface is certified as organic, for Fino and Verna lemon, lime, and almonds crops.

“Joining the PGI Citricos Valencianos reinforces the work we have been doing all these years betting on local and quality products. This shows that not only does the Valencian Community produce quality oranges and mandarins, but it also produces lemons with the same parameters. La Vega Baja, where our lemons grow, accounts for 25% of Spain's lemon production,” Jose Alcaide stated.

According to the representative of the agricultural division of this group, this year's lemon campaign is no stranger to the decrease in production that other Valencian citrus fruits are experiencing. “Prices were relatively stable until the end of 2022. This new year has begun with prudence and compensating for the decrease in the initial forecasts with part of the organic production, which is being sold as conventional. We expect a shorter Verna lemon campaign and an abundance of large calibers this year. A low supply should lead to high prices,” stated Jose Alcaide.

“Las Moreras Fruit & Veggies exports its citrus fruits mainly to Germany, Poland, and other Eastern countries, as well as to Scandinavian countries and, occasionally, to South America. We focus on quality rather than quantity. We have all kinds of customers -both wholesalers and retailers- to whom we supply both our own Las Moreras brand and their own brands,” he added.
