The Royal Blu Aroma® blueberry from the Royal company, from Sevilla, was awarded the 2023 Taste of the Year award in Spain and France, a distinction that is awarded to the products on the market that have the best taste properties. This seal of quality is awarded to those brands or varieties that achieve the highest rating in a blind tasting of their category carried out by a sensory analysis laboratory that certifies the results at the national level.

Royal Blu Aroma® is the result of the intense research work carried out by the Sevillian company over the last fifteen years. A process that takes the aroma and taste of unique varieties, which have become Royal's flagship product.
Currently, the production of blueberries of the Royal Blu Aroma® varieties accounts for 85% of the company's total distribution volume. The campaign runs from October to June and Royal obtains a volume of about 13 million kilos. Royal is the only agricultural company in the sector with a fully integrated vertical structure, as it participates in the creation and development of the varieties and it's responsible for their production, packaging, and international marketing.
“Despite being planted in different geographical areas to ensure an 8-month calendar, all the varieties in our exclusive Royal Blu Aroma® blueberry range have the same organoleptic characteristics that are so distinctive in the market,” stated Tanguy Debiesse, Royal's Director of Strategy and Business Development. “This is fundamental so consumers find a consistent taste, to develop a brand that consumers recognize and identify so they repeat purchases.”

Royal markets its blueberries in 27 different countries. “We started marketing blueberries in Spain 4 years ago and since then consumption has grown exponentially. We work with different distribution chains, both large and small. They provided very good feedback for our Royal Blu Aroma® so we decided to present our candidacy for this award and the results were fantastic,” stated Tanguy. “France is the market in which we have been working the most years with blueberries. We continue to strongly increase our sales, both in retail and in wholesale markets,” he added.
The Taste of the Year award is a distinction based exclusively on the taste qualities of the products (taste, aroma, appearance, smell, texture, and satisfaction), which are tested and approved by consumers. “This recognition also highlights the increase in consumption of blueberries and berries in general. Not many years ago, people said only the Nordic countries or the United Kingdom would be interested in blueberries, but the growth in sales in Italy, Spain, and France show that it's also for the Mediterranean countries. These Mediterranean countries already account for 20% of our sales,” stated Tanguy Debiesse.
