Marcos Gómez de la Torre, founder and CEO of Huertissima: "We act locally to spark global change"

Launch of first B2C Marketplace for intermediary-free 100% sustainable vegetable gardens

Spanish agricultural producers now have a new business to client marketplace for the direct marketing of their products to end customers without intermediaries.

Marcos Gómez de la Torre is the founder and CEO of this project, designed to decentralize access to fruits and vegetables from supermarkets; a channel where prices increase fivefold compared to the price at origin, and to bring consumers closer to locally grown products and encourage the creation of a system of sustainable orchards.

"Huertissima is a startup launched recently, in August 2022, but it has aroused great international interest. According to updated statistics from the page, the platform has so far received more than 40,000 visits from different countries, such as Spain, the United States and others." Any user, with or without vegetable gardens, can register for free on Huertissima and find local products in real time for exchange, purchase or sale.

"Small and medium-sized agricultural producers, who produce more than 50% of the world's food, need an urgent solution to avoid escalating taxes and constant waste. The platform connects large, medium and small producers with their neighbors through a geolocation tool, achieving, on the one hand, fair, tax-free prices and, on the other hand, generating a sustainable, circular economy and avoiding constant waste," highlights Marcos.

“Huertissima's main mission is to facilitate the delivery of food produced intensively to places with high demand (such as cities and communities), which has various benefits, namely: reducing emissions, mitigating climate change, reducing water consumption, reducing the plastic footprint, reducing the ecological footprint of cities, promoting recycling and reducing food waste, protecting biodiversity, reducing dependence on the global food market, boosting nutrition and health, and improving resilience and community values."

The platform delivers multiple synergies. Currently, Huertissima is looking into different collaborations with suppliers that could bring different solutions to current and future garden owners (trainings, courses, products or garden kits, among others).

"We act locally to spark global change. Our mission is to prevent the constant waste of garden products, as well as to ensure the existence of healthy, sustainable communities, with a culture of participation and neighborly solidarity," explains Marcos Gómez de la Torre.
