Export price declined by more than 30% compared to last year

Chinese ginger price slightly rises in comparison with last month

The price of Chinese ginger slightly increased in November. The export price of Chinese ginger for the European market is around 1,700-1,800 USD per ton. That is a price decline of more than 30% compared to last year's export price of 2,500-2,600 USD per ton. In the end, market demand for last season's ginger is limited. Most buyers are waiting for the new harvest of ginger to enter the market in large volumes.

"The export price of Chinese ginger recently showed a slight rise. That is on the one hand because the current supply of fresh ginger is limited, and on the other hand because the ginger season in Brazil is coming to an end. The supply volume is limited. That is why the export price is rising." This is according to sales manager Jason Wang of Anqiu Tailai Foods Co., Ltd.

Jason Wang continued: "The price of organic ginger is higher than the price of regular ginger, because the plantation cost is higher. That is why the percentage of organic ginger in the export market has been rather low in the last few years. In general we only ship organic ginger in response to specific client requests. The main competition for Chinese ginger in the international market is Peru. But the flavors of Chinese and Peruvian ginger are different, and in our experience this attracts different client groups. Buyers have different preferences."

The harvest season began in the middle of October and is now almost over, but future trends are still difficult to predict. There are many reasons for this uncertainty, but one thing that is for sure is that the production volume in the new season is much larger than last year.
