Ly Nguyen - Van Xuan Agri

“We are planting more than 300 hectares with cooperatives and farmers"

Passion fruit is mainly grown in the Central Highlands of Vietnam due to the basaltic red soil, with a slope of ≤ 15 degrees and an altitude of 650 to 1300 meters above sea level, some is also grown in the northern localities of Vietnam, which are suitable for the growth of the tree.

Passion fruit is in season all year round. It is usually planted in April to June, which is the rainy season in the Central Highlands areas. After 6 months, farmers will begin harvesting, so the peak season for passion fruit is from November to the next January.

Van Xuan Agri supplies many different fresh fruits and vegetables as well as frozen products, but Passion fruit is their main product.

"We are planting more than 300 hectares in a linked chain with cooperatives and farmers to be proactive in growing areas, controlling fruit quality, harvesting, producing and exporting to other countries," explains Ly Nguyen, Sales Executive at Van Xuan Agri.

"There are two passion fruit varieties, yellow passion fruit and purple passion fruit. The yellow fruit is usually sweeter and less acidic than purple one, while purple passion fruit is more popular because of its scent and acidity."

Van Xaun Agri is currently exporting passion fruit to Korea, China, Australia, Middle Eastern and European countries. Europe and China are the main export markets both of which have a steady import volume which continues to grow.

"Other countries in Europe or the Middle East often import fresh passion fruit, passion fruit juice with seeds and concentrated passion fruit juice or puree, Korea tends to import frozen whole or half-cut passion fruit. We can customize products according to the customer's brand or our brand as well."
