The Observatory of Prices and Markets of the Junta de Andalucía reviewed the evolution of Huelva's 2020/21 strawberry production and marketing campaign, and detailed which were the most cultivated varieties in the province's fields.
According to the document, Fortuna continues to be the main cultivated variety, with a percentage similar to that registered in the previous season (35.8% of the area in the 2020/21 season compared to 36.2% in the 2019/20 season).
Rociera is the second most cultivated variety accounting for 20.9% of the area, decreasing over the previous season, in which it reached 25.6%.
The presence of the Plant Sciences / Berry Genetics varieties slightly increased this season reaching 9.8%.
The Calinda variety increased its surface this season, going from 4.9% to 5.4%. The positive trend of the Masiá Ciscar S. A variety also continues along this line. La Palmerita, went from 3.4% of the surface last season to 5.0% in the current season.
According to the report, the presence of the Rabida variety decreased slightly, going from 6.1% in the 2019/20 campaign to 4.4% in 2020/21. The Victory variety and the Primoris variety also decreased.
The total area cultivated with strawberries decreased slightly when compared to the 2019/20 campaign as part of the surface was used to grow other berries.
