Negotiations for the opening of new markets for Spanish fruits and vegetables are progressing

The Fruits and Vegetables Working Group, which is made up of the heads of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, as well as representatives of industry associations, including Fepex, continues to make progress in opening new markets for Spanish exports.

Work is currently underway to open the Canadian market for cherries, blueberries, and tomatoes with green parts, after the country achieved opening the market for its strawberries in January. They are also working to open the United States market for strawberry plants, cherries, nectarines, plums, pears, and apples.

In Latin America, the group is working to open Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile, among other markets.

The Fruit and Vegetable Group reported the status of negotiations with Thailand in its last meeting, which was held at the end of May. According to this report, the files regarding the opening of this market for pears and grapes are well advanced. In addition, work is being done so Thailand authorizes air shipments for cherries.

Currently, the Fruits and Vegetables Working Group is working with more than 18 countries in the priority-files group and more than 11 countries in the non-priority-files group. In addition, one or more products can be negotiated at the same time with a single country.
