Government of Andalusia launches promotional campaign for the region's oranges

The Council of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Government of Andalusia has launched the "Naranja de Andalucía" ("Orange of Andalusia") campaign, through which it will promote the fruit's excellent qualities and the healthy benefits of its consumption.

Through this initiative, the regional government seeks to increase the consumption of a fruit whose production and processing has an ever greater weight in the region. In the 2020-2021 campaign, Andalusia expects to produce more than 2.3 million tons of citrus fruits; a volume that represents 33.5% of the total production in Spain (6.9 million tons), with 1.6 million tons corresponding to sweet oranges.

The campaign seeks to put Andalusian oranges and, by extension, Spanish citrus fruits, in the place they deserve in the international ranking based on the fruit's unique characteristics. Their regular intake ensures a natural supply of fiber and vitamins, and they are also rich in antioxidants, which help combat cell aging. In the specific case of vitamin C, its consumption helps to strengthen the immune system.

For this reason, the Council is encouraging Andalusian consumers to include oranges in their daily diet, especially in the case of people who have low defenses and, therefore, are more prone to colds, flu, respiratory allergies or infections.

They also highlight the versatility of this citrus fruit in the kitchen, since it can be used in many main courses and desserts. Moreover, Andalusia is able to supply a wide range of varieties that meet all tastes.

Throughout the month of December, the Council will distribute promotional material to inform consumers about the characteristics of the "Orange of Andalusia".
