Storm causes losses worth € 35 million in kaki and citrus crops in the Region of Valencia

In a first emergency assessment, the Valencian Association of Agricultural Producers (AVA-ASAJA) has found that the damage caused by hail in the province of Valencia last Friday has affected whole kaki productions that had yet to be harvested, generating around 13.5 million in losses for this crop's growers. The most severely affected are those in the regions of La Ribera and l'Horta, where some fields are 100% affected. This adds to the impact of a recent storm, which had also caused some damages.

The heavy rainfall and hail have also caused damages that could total 22 million Euro in citrus farms in the Region of Valencia, especially in La Marina, La Safor, Camp de Turia, La Ribera, Camp de Morvedre, l'Horta de València and the Plana Baixa de Castelló. The impact of these damages could span over the next few days, given the chance of the appearance of pathophysiologies and fungi.

Some vegetables such as onions, cabbages, lettuce, beans or artichokes, have also been affected to a lesser extent by the impact of hail.

AVA-ASAJA reiterates that it is still too early to assess the extent of the damage with more precision. For this, it will still be necessary to wait a few days.
