Since 2019, Peru has been the top global blueberry exporter

Latin America leads in global blueberry exports, with Peru, Chile, and Mexico at the forefront. The Netherlands, despite low domestic production, ranks second due to its re-export activities through Rotterdam. From 2019 to 2022, most top exporters saw increased shipments, except Chile. Peru's exports grew the most, at an annual rate over 37%.

Since 2019, Peru has been the top blueberry exporter globally, as reported by the International Blueberry Organization. With 21 thousand hectares cultivating 65 blueberry varieties, primarily Ventura and Biloxi, Peru produces over 285 thousand tons yearly, exporting to around 35 countries. The United States receives 54% of these exports, followed by Europe (26%) and China (13%). In the 2022/23 season, exports to these regions grew, with Peru entering new markets like Israel and Jordan and negotiating with Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam, and South Korea. Peru exports year-round, peaking from August to December, when over 80% of its blueberries are shipped.

The Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries highlights that around 20% of Peru's blueberry farms are small-scale, under 10 hectares. This segment enhances resilience and extends the harvest season, but faces challenges in maintaining consistent quality and farming practices.
