Sunrise Fruits Company bets on biodynamic agriculture

"In this campaign we are marketing the first Demeter kakis"

The kaki campaign started in October for Sunrise Fruits Company, whose production is now, for the first time, Demeter certified. "We have strengthened our commitment to a production system that promotes the soil's natural processes and protects the ecosystem, at all levels," says Celia Sin, General Director of the Sunrise Fruits Company.

“The reason why our producers have taken this step is not the economic profitability that the marketing of Demeter products can offer, as the price doesn't differ much from that of organic products. We have been working with organic products for years and have seen how prices have dropped to levels similar to those of conventional products. In the same way, the price of Demeter and organic products is increasingly similar,” she says.

According to Celia Sin, the growers who work for this company are realizing that cultivating under the standards of biodynamic agriculture “highly improves the soil's conditions and its fertility thanks to the greater biodiversity and protection of the environment. This certification sets actual sustainability standards.”

"We hope that, with the support of this certification, we will be able to differentiate ourselves more in the market and manage to open more doors on a commercial level. We believe that we will have great opportunities in the Swiss market, where we have a notable presence and consumers are more receptive to this type of products. We also work in Germany, but since this is the natural market for Demeter products there is great competition and it is more difficult to find our place, although we are going to try," says Celia Sin.

In addition to kakis, Sunrise Fruits Company will focus its efforts on the stone fruit season, which will be the main Demeter-certified product in terms of volume, and, to a lesser extent, also on figs. "We understand that our product is an ambassador for the lands that produce it, and for the men and women who work with them every day. They are the result of their effort and their values. Our commitment to them is to work every day to make that clear," she says.
