Lome Super Fruit

Boom in orders for Italian pomegranates

"The 2020/21 pomegranate season is only 40 days old but it has already been a success, with an increase in orders of more than 20% compared to the same period last year. We have started this new season with something new, namely the production of ultra-early varieties, which will allow us to be present in the markets from the first week of September," said Dario De Lisi, sales manager of Masseria Fruttirossi in Castellaneta (Taranto, Apulia).

"Demand and prices are excellent, but more satisfying is the ability to provide buyers with a fresh and Italian product, and even manage to be more competitive than imported products. On average, we process 30,000 kilos of product every day, 90% of which is destined for the fresh market, while the residue is used to produce our Lome Super Fruit juice."

"At the moment, we are completing the commercialization of the first varieties, so as to move on to the variety Wonderful, the real core business of Masseria Fruttirossi, whose first harvest will be introduced on the market next week. We can guarantee Italian products for about 7 months a year. Thanks to the controlled cold storage, we are able to extend the pomegranate season until March. But the success of the season will, obviously, depend on demand," said De Lisi.

Pomegranates with barcode

"We've implemented many new ideas for this season by not only adding two brand new pomegranate varieties to our assortment, but also by applying a barcode to each single pomegranate. This barcode should prevent the product from being weighed in the store. This system, used by clients who request it, allows a guaranteed weight (from 300 to 500 g) and the price can be read automatically at the checkout," concluded De Lisi.
