Spain: Six Almeria fruit and vegetable growers among the top 30 Andalusian exporters

The magazine Actualidad Económica de Andalucía has published a list of the thirty largest Andalusian exporters, including six exporters of fruit and vegetables from Almeria. The data provided by the Andalusian magazine in its report highlights that Almeria is by far the Andalusian province with the greatest presence in international food and agriculture markets and with the largest deployment of all companies based in Andalusia.

This ranking is made up of the Única Group, with a turnover of 250 million euros in the 2017/2018 season. In fact, the Agroponiente Group, which at that time accumulated almost 200 million euros; the cooperative Vicasol SCA, with a total of 183 million euros, the Alhóndiga La Unión, with 142 million sold on the foreign market, the Agroiris Group, with 140 million euros in turnover, and the second degree cooperative Murgiverde SCA, which totaled 136 million euros in exports and had its headquarters in El Ejido.

Only Huelva and Seville manage to include two fruit and vegetable companies in the list of the top thirty companies, one for each province; these are Onubafruit, which sells strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, citrus blueberries and persimmon worth 190 million euros, and the Seville-based Euroberry Marketing, dedicated to blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and gooseberries, which had a turnover of 142 million euros.

Total sales
The total exports registered by the province of Almeria in the financial year 2018 reached 3,843 million euros, of which around 2,900 million come from companies in the fruit and vegetable sector.

Although the province is once again increasing its income from exports of fruit and vegetable products, there has been a certain slowdown in the growth rates observed, which were 6.2% in sales in 2018 over those in 2017.
