France: Val'Prim starts its new onion harvest in the Loire Valley

Val’Prim has always valued its territory and produces 40% of its onions in the Loire Valley. Planted and sown last February, they are now ready to be harvested. From the end of June until the end of August, more than 3,000 tons of onions will be harvested in the region to end up on our plates.

The company Val’Prim markets condiments (garlic, onions, shallots) and cultivates the desire to control the production of its products completely. Part of its production is grown in the Loire Valley, as close as possible to the packaging site.

The onions were planted and sown last February in the region. For 4 months, the onions have grown at the rate of more or less lenient weather conditions (alternating between sun, rains and periods of cold). The weather is now nice again and the onions have reached maturity: it is time to harvest!

Throughout the summer, Val’Prim predicts that the company will harvest 3,000 tons of onions in the region. After sorting, they will be packaged in the Val’Prim site of Longué-Jumelles, under the brand “Cuisine”. These quality local products will then be sold in many stores in France, ready to be cooked and tasted.

Research to limit environmental impacts and guarantee a quality product
To answer the concerns of consumers and in order to reduce its environmental impact, Val’Prim has been experimenting for several years alternative methods to the use of treatment products. Along this line, the company hopes to develop the HEV (High Environmental Value) reference by reducing the use of pesticides while preserving the qualities of the product and terroir. This year, in order to validate its achievements, Val’Prim has in fact set up a crop without pesticide residues.
