Yellow Vests: "Products from the Reunion Island still get on planes, but the situation is not easy"

Boyer produces and exports fruit and vegetables of the Philibon brand. Much of their exotic fruit comes from Reunion Island, where the movement of the yellow vests continues to rage. Jean-Marc Boyer, sales director of Boyer, says the situation is not easy. "Fortunately, the products still get on the planes. "

Claude, Jean-Marc, Joël and Simone Boyer

Philibon Reunion Island products include lychees, Victoria pineapples and passion fruit. Recently, Boyer also began marketing vanilla from the Reunion Island. These are all premium products, transported by plane. The products are marketed in France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium.

Holiday products
Exotic fruits are truly holiday products. The introduction of the products will take place at the beginning of December. "We are starting to market litchi from the Reunion Island next week, assuming everything goes well with transportation. Jean-Marc is confident for the upcoming season: "Quality is good and we predict the expected volumes will be marketed in good conditions. "

Melon: balance between supply and demand
Another flagship product of Boyer is melon. The company has melons 11 months out of 12. The Senegalese season has just started, volumes are progressing slowly. Although demand for melon is low in winter, supply and demand is still balanced. According to Jean-Marc, this is due to the fact that it is a high quality melon. "There is always a niche market for the quality we work with," says Jean-Marc.

The station

A complicated market for mangoes
Jean-Marc explains that the mango market has recently become very complicated. "For the Peru origin, within a day, the market loses its momentum. We are waiting for December for things to get better. This applies not only to mango but also to other exotic products. The problems of the last few weeks with the yellow vests did not help."

New packing station
Philibon is studying the possibility of opening a new packaging station to optimize conservation. This will be done in partnership with other professionals. "The new station will have a kiwi-plum specialization."
