The Picard brand specialized in frozen products announced it will “expand its organic, local and sustainable" product range. Indeed, the organic product offer of the French giant (1,000 stores in France, 91 abroad for a turnover of nearly 1.5 billion euros last year) will increase from 65 to 80 from March. Philippe Dailliez, president of the brand, said that Picard's ambition is to exceed one hundred, a little less than 10% of its total supply.
In two years, the organic offer has already doubled, now representing 23% of fruits and vegetables turnover (raw uncooked).
In addition, the local bio project initiated in 2016 with the National Federation of Organic Agriculture (FNAB) will begin paying off. From 2020, Picard customers will find regional organic vegetables in store. This will first be implemented in the Paca region.
Finally, Dailliez mentioned that the brand has signed a partnership with the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) and farmers to validate innovative agro-ecological practices, such as seeding of flower strips, mechanical weeding and work on the choice of varieties with the objective of obtaining vegetables without any residue.
